The Big Data Process: How Knowledge Becomes Insight

Duke University

Professor Cynthia Rudin teaches computer science, electrical and computer engineering as well as statistical science at Duke University. She directs the Prediction Analysis Lab, whose main focus is in interpretable machine learning and is the Associate Director of the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI).

This lecture will focus upon the intersection of machine learning and statistics. How did Target figure out that people were pregnant just by researching someone’s purchase history? How much information is Google gathering? How do we turn data into insight and how can we use these predictions to make life better? These questions and more will be answered by Professor Cynthia Rudin.
